On February 19, 2020, newspaper of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) published an interview with Prof. Li huacheng. In the interview, Prof. Li introduced the history and current situation of medical social history, mentioned that the current research should pay attention to the public health related problems that our country is facing at the present stage, carry out interdisciplinary research in the mutual reference of history and reality, re-examine disease and medical problems from a broader perspective, put forward solutions to solve problems, improve the ability to deal with the sudden public health crisis, thus promoting the development of public health.

RCSHM is one of the few professional research institutes of medical social history in China. After the outbreak of the new coronary pneumonia(NCP), Prof. Li immediately adjusted the work plan of research team, changed the social interview into online pneumonia related information collection and research, and gathered experts and scholars specialized in medicine, history, anthropology, news communication and artificial intelligence, set up "New Coronavirus Pneumonia (NCP) epidemic and social research team" on January 23, using multi-disciplinary theory, perspective and methods to carry out comprehensive research on epidemic related issues. Up to now, the research team has put forward 33 core research topics; design "epidemic situation and society" questionnaire to the public.
