In order to investigate the health status of the elderly in Chinese rural areas, a “Windrunner Team” led by Prof. Li Huacheng, executive director of Research Center for Social History of Medicine had spent one week in Xi Huang Shi Village in Shanxi Province to conduct a field survey during July 15 to July 22, 2017.

During the research process, 9 members were divided into three groups to interview local villagers according to the outlines in questionnaire. As for the unexpected problems beside the outline, team members would discuss and make out a solution according to the facts of local situation.

On the last day, the team members had made a summary on the original questionnaires and interview notes. It could be found that all interviewees approved of the fact that improvement of living environment was good for health; most of the elderly were satisfied with their medical conditions; part of the elderly were satisfied with every aspects of their daily lives. Economic factors and emotional factors are the two major factors affecting the quality elderly’s life in Xi Huang Shi Village, and the elderly more desire for emotional care from children.
