On July 8, 2016, a methodology training on oral history investigation was given by Dr. Yang Jie, director of Center for Women’s Studies. This training is a necessary part for “Medicine investigation in the country” during summer vacation. The primary goal is to provide strong theoretical support for researchers.

Dr. Yang Jie, associate professor of Shaanxi Normal University, is mainly engaged in history, theory and methods of education. She has rich experience in oral history research. During the lecture, Dr. Yang discussed the following topics: connotation and characteristics of oral history, interview types of oral history, arts and skills of interview, characteristics of oral interview as well as precautions of oral history research.

In terms of "Medicine investigation in the country”, Dr. Yang pointed out that this topic was of great value. To make sure the quality of interview, researchers should choose appropriate respondents and pay attention to the interview skills at the same time. Before the interview, researchers must be equipped with all necessary background information, and work out a interview outline. Then, researchers should introduce themselves in a honest way to break barriers; During the interview, researchers should pay attention to respondents’ emotions, take the method of asking open-ended questions, and listen to their feedback; After the interview, researchers should sort data right away, including: interview time and location, the background information of respondents, language information and non language information, permission of using interview data from respondents, etc.

Students learn a lot from Dr. Yang’s lecture and are full of enthusiasm for the coming research. At the same time, Dr. Yang joins the summer research discussion group, and will answer students' questions at any time. Students can also share their research experience and work together to make sure the smooth progress of summer investigation.
