On April 14, 2016, the first remote lecture The “Invasion” of Historians and Research Turning of Medical Social History -- Cultural History Turning given by Dr. Min Fanxiang, Nanjing University was hold in Room 223, School of history, Xianlin Campus of Nanjing University. This was the first lecture of Jinling Medical History Forum. With the help of Intercontinental Video System, teachers and students listened to Dr. Min’s tele-lecture in Room 325, International Exchange Center, Shaanxi Normal University.
During the lecture, Dr. Min explained the changes in disciplinary nature, research object, usage of historical data, research methods, goals and results forms of western medical history since the 1930s. Then he expounded the new changes in compilation and study brought by historians’ “invasion”: medical social history and the social - Cultural History Paradigm formation systematically. The rigorous lecture won the warm applause from the audience.
After the lecture, Dr. Zhang Shu-jian, associate professor of Nanjing University of Chinese medicine, commented on this lecture. He believed that Dr. Min’s lecture had systematically described the academic track of Western Medicine since ancient times, which enabled audience have a clear understanding on the previous history of Western medicine.
Then, teachers and students actively communicated with Dr. Min on issues of western cultural history. They got fruitful ideas from this lecture and were longing for next lectures in the near future.
